What should I set Notification Settings to?

There are three configurations under Notification Settings, this section goes over each configuration:

Sensitivity

To generate an automated cooling or heat failure notification, two things needs to happen:

  1. The room’s temperature is not moving in the correct direction, during an active heating or cooling cycle, compared with an hour ago.
  2. The difference between the heat or cool set point and the current room temperature is more than the set Thermostat Notification Sensitivity setting:
  • High*: If heating, the room temperature is at least 1°F below the heat setpoint. If cooling, the room is at least 1°F above the cool setpoint.
  • Medium (Default): If heating, the room temperature is at least 3°F below the heat setpoint. If cooling, the room is at least 3°F above the cool setpoint.
  • Low: If heating, the room temperature is at least 5°F below the heat setpoint. If cooling, the room is at least 5°F above the cool setpoint.
  • Custom**: If heating, the room temperature is at least the Setpoint Deviation configuration below the heat setpoint. If cooling, the room is at least the Setpoint Deviation configuration above the cool setpoint.
*If Sensitivity is set to High, then if the thermostat is unreachable by your Pelican App for over 4 hours, a “Thermostat Unreachable” notification will be generated.

**When set to Custom, you must configuration the Setpoint Deviation configuration (0°F to 10°F) and the Notify if Unreachable* configuration (Yes or No). If Notify if Unreachable is set to Yes, then if the thermostat is unreachable by your Pelican App for 30 minutes, a “Thermostat Unreachable” notification will be generated.

A note on all the above notifications:

To reduce the number of notifications Pelican sends, we restrict the “same” automated notification from being generated until both of the following have occurred:

  1. The active notification has been manually deleted by an Admin or User through the Pelican App.
  2. The active notification has been cleared out of the thermostat. Which

Safe Range

Safe Range is an “always active” notification setting. A notification will be generated if the thermostat see’s its room temperature rise above or drop below the configured safe range.

This setting should only be used for environments that require a notification if the room EVER goes outside of a configured “safe” range. Most applications do NOT require this type of notification and Safe Range should be left blank. Our automated notifications, explained above under Sensitivty, are more suitable to the majority of applications.

A note on the above notifications:

To reduce the number of notifications Pelican sends, we restrict the “same” automated notification from being generated until both of the following occurs:

  1.  The active notification has been manually deleted by an Admin or User through your Pelican App.
  2. The active notification has been automatically cleared by the thermostat.
