Yes. There are three scenarios where a two-position actuator can be controlled by Pelican thermostat:
Two-Position valve for a unitary air handler. This is commonly a hot water, steam, or chilled water valve.
Note: This configuration is only able to be enabled by Pelican technical support.
For Hot Water or Steam Valve Control: You will want to wire the thermostat’s (W) output to open the hot water valve and (W2) to close the hot water valve.
For Chilled Water Valve Control: You will want to wire the thermostat’s (Y) output to open the chilled water valve and (Y2) to close the chilled water valve.
This configuration is found under the Thermostat’s configuration > Thermostat Operation > Floating Valve.
- None – there is no two position or floating valve to control.
- Heat – the thermostat uses (W) to open the heat valve and (W2) to close the heat valve.
- Cool – the thermostat uses (Y) to open the cold valve and (Y2) to close the cold valve.
- Heat & Cool – the thermostat uses (W) to open the heat valve and (W2) to close the heat valve. And the thermostat uses (Y) to open the cold valve and (Y2) to close the cold water valve.
Two Position bypass damper for a unitary air handler. This is commonly a fan coil face and bypass damper.
Note: This configuration is only able to be enabled by Pelican technical support.
Wiring to the Face and Bypass Damper: You will want to wire the thermostat’s (W) output to place the damper to Face and (W2) to place the damper to Bypass the coil.
This configuration is found under the Thermostat’s configuration > Variable Temperature Control.
Note: For two position Face/Bypass fan coils, the thermostat is also controlling a modulating heat valve and/or cool valve.
- Turn Variable Temperature to ON.
- Select that variable source (Heat, Cool, Heat & Cool).
- Configure the variable source and then turn Face/Bypass to ON. This sets the thermostat to use (W) to place the damper to Face and (W2) to place the damper to Bypass to coil.
- Actuator Travel Time – Tells the thermostat how many seconds it takes for the damper to go from full Face to full Bypass.
- Ventilation Face Position – Tells the thermostat where to place the damper during a ventilation cycle.
- Maximum Face Position – Tells the thermostat the maximum face allowed during a heating or cooling cycle.
A two position zone damper actuator for a zone that is ducted to a multi-zone air handler.
Note: Admins can set this configuration, but it is only available for a thermostats when there is also a Z8 or Z24 part of your Pelican Solution.
This configuration can be found by selecting Admin > Thermostat Configuration > “select any thermostat” > System Type = Zone Damper > Zone Controller = “select the zone controller the thermostat communicates with” > Damper Settings > Damper Type = Open/Close
A two position zone reheat valve for a zone that is ducted to a multi-zone air handler.
Note: Admins can set this configuration, but it is only available for a thermostats when there is also a Z8 or Z24 part of your Pelican Solution.
This configuration can be found by selecting Admin > Thermostat Configuration > “select any thermostat” > System Type = Zone Damper > Zone Controller = “select the zone controller the thermostat communicates with” > Damper Settings > Reheat Type = Open/Close
